“Where do Animals go for Vacation?” – BookView Review

Erickson returns to charm youngsters with this delightful, deeply imaginative early reader. What if animals went on holiday? The places they’d go! A penguin to a beach, an ostrich to a massive rock cliff, a spider off to a video game store, an elephant in space, a beaver to a large LEGO® convention, and what about a parrot? Wherever it may be, each animal would choose someplace that’s just right for them, but can you guess where that might be? The book has occasional unusual entries, such as armadillos, child-friendly text, and beautifully rhymed prose: “Every morning spiders have to restore/ The web they’d just spun the day before./ Spinning and spinning, they’re put to the test./ Even the hardiest spider can use a rest.” The animals featured in these pages are endearing, each with their own unique quirks that make them feel almost alive.
